My 4 Favorite All Time Scary Movies

October and Halloween are all about the scares. Haunted hay rides, ghoulish ghost stories, terrifying tours of cemeteries and spine tingling scary movies.

So let’s talk about my 4 favorite all time scary movies:

House on Haunted Hill – both the 1959 version (with Vincent Price) and the 1999 version. A millionaire invites a few people to stay in an old insane asylum. He, and his bitter wife, offer a million dollars to anyone who can last the whole night. But when they become trapped in the building along with their ‘guinea pigs,’ they quickly realize that the house is haunted — and the spirits are very angry. House on Haunted HillAlfred Hitchcock’s The Birds – I love just about anything Hitchcock! In this movie a woman meets a man in a San Francisco pet store and decides to follow him home with two love birds. They begin a romance but soon birds start attacking children at the man’s sister’s party. Eventually they start attacking the whole town. The Birds movie

Steven King’s The Shining – I love Steven King’s early books but I have to admit that he’s lost me with the last ten years or so. In this movie (or book) Jack Nicholson plays a man who takes the job of winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to use the solitude to write. He settles in along with his wife and son, who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As the man’s writing goes nowhere and his son’s visions become more disturbing, he discovers the hotel’s dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his own family. The Shining movie

The Omen –  An American diplomat adopts Damien when his wife delivers a stillborn child. After Damien’s first nanny hangs herself, Father Brennan warns the man that Damien will kill his wife’s currently unborn child. Shortly thereafter, the priest dies and the wife miscarries when Damien pushes her off a balcony. As more people around Damien die, the man investigates Damien’s background and realizes his adopted son may be the Antichrist. The Omen, the movie

What do you think? Are any of these movies on your favorites list? What other movies do you like?

I wish you a spine tingling Halloween with lots of candy. Enjoy!
