Has weddings really changed that much since (well, in my case the 1980’s)? Have women traded the princess type wedding dress for a masculine wedding pantsuit? Have they traded lace and ribbons for feathers and crop tops? I guess romance really is in the eye of the beholder.
New trends in wedding dresses (at least in the US) are lots of exposure with low backs (some just above the butt) and peek-a-boo lace panels.
— soft pastel colors as non-white options and very short in length. There are even wedding gowns being designed with feathers, cropped tops and as pant suits.
As you can see from the photo above of my wedding dress, I had a more traditional princess style dress with lots of ruffles, bows and seed pearls. My three-foot train hooked up in the back for walking and dancing.
Here are some stats about weddings in the US:
- average wedding cost $31,213 (not including the honeymoon)
- most expensive place to have a wedding is Manhattan, NY – $76,328
- less expensive place to have a wedding is in Utah – $15,257
- average marrying age of the bride – 29, the groom – 31
- average number of guests – 136
- average number of bridesmaids/groomsmen – 4 to 5
- most popular month to get engaged – December
- most popular month to get married – June
- average length of engagement – 14 months
I love weddings! The gowns, the flowers, the romance.
What was your wedding dress like? Would you follow one of the newer trends of dresses or go the traditional route? I’d love to hear from you.

I like the traditional wedding with wedding gown. Mine was quite simple but silky with a lovely sash, and a very long train to trip everyone up!

My wife’s dress wasnt anything fancy however very much different compared to the 80s already (http://crazychinesefamily.com/2014/05/25/our-wedding-in-finland/)
we bought the dress in China as it was much cheaper there than in Finland 🙂
